How it works

Your guided learning pathway

In this six-part Master Class, you'll level up every single aspect of your guitar playing. Think of this as an extensive sampler platter – you'll walk away from each lesson with exciting new techniques to spice up your playing right away.

Fundamentals

We'll kick off the class by covering any weak points in your playing foundation.

In this intensive section, you'll dial in your sense of rhythm, tone, groove, and other essential techniques.

Chords

Next, you'll learn how to harness the mighty power of the triad.

Here, Horace shows you how to spice up your rhythm and lead playing with three-note chords. You'll start by working on foundational triad skills, then some interesting sonic color into the mix.

Improvising

Next, we shift focus to the art of improvisation as Horace breaks down how to solo over single tonalities and introduces three different progressions you can use to become a better lead guitarist.

Part IV. Polyrhythms

Scared of advanced time signatures? Don't be! In Part IV, Horace breaks down an easy way to implement polyrhythms into your playing.

Part V. Licks

Next, we'll pause for some quick inspiration with 20 beginner and advanced licks so you can juice up your vocabulary. Horace will play each lick at-tempo, then breaks it down with interactive TAB.

Part VI. SongSquad

Finally, we'll challenge you to learn four original tunes by Horace that put concepts and techniques from previous sections of the class into action.

7-Day Plan

Part I. Fundamentals

We'll start off with the fundamentals of rhythm and tone.

In Part I, you'll dive into fundamental guitar concepts with exercises that will improve your picking & fretting-hand technique, pocket playing, rhythm, groove, tone, and feel.

Through a series of straightforward exercises, you'll learn what Horace does on a daily basis to improve and maintain these important areas of your playing. You'll have a lot to chew on in this section. While the exercises are simple mastering the concepts behind them are incredibly important and will do wonders for your playing if practiced regularly.

Part II. Chords

Learn how Horace approaches chords and spices them up.

Part II. covers basic triads, how to add interesting colors to them with extended notes and open strings, and how to incorporate them in your rhythm and lead playing. We’ll wrap up this section with a lesson on how to arpeggiate chords and a bonus interlude on that covers funk chord basics.

Part III. Improvising

Step up your lead skills with Horace's approach to improvisation.

In this section, you’ll learn a simple method for improvising over single tonalities and solo over three progressions that get increasingly difficult. You'll also learn how to improvise in different styles (like pop, R&B, and jazz). Horace wraps up this section with an interlude on incorporating double stops into your playing.

Parts IV-VI

We'll wrap up with advanced polyrhythms then put your new skills into a musical context.

Part IV. Polyrhythms

In this section, you'll learn three polyrhythms: 3/2, 5/4, and 7/4. Spending time learning these complex rhythms will help you develop your overall rhythmic accuracy and internal time feel. Horace will also discuss how to implement these into your playing in a musical context.

Part V. Licks

You'll learn 20 colorful and advanced licks to quickly improve your playing. For each lick, Horace plays it at-tempo and then slows it down with some context. We also include interactive TAB with each lick.

As with any lick you learn, make sure to make them your own by adding your own flare. Play them in different keys and positions.

Part VI. SongSquad

Wrap up the class with six original tunes (called SongSquads) by Horace that put everything you'll have learned into action.
