How it works

Your guided class

In this five-part Artist Series, Artur breaks down his energetic modern approach to the blues and gives you the tools to discover your own voice.

Rhythm & Lead Fundamentals

You can't play mind-melting modern blues without a solid blues foundation.

To kick off the class, Artur will guide you through a basic blues intensive covering different blues forms, scales for soloing, conceptual breakdowns, and go-to chord shapes.

Blues Styles

Next, we'll shift focus to blues soloing.

In this section, you'll dissect three different solos by Artur. Then, we'll challenge you to craft your own over three professionally-produced backing tracks.

Blues Icons

Now you’re onto the fun stuff! In this section, Artur will teach you key elements from three of the greatest bluesmen of all time – B.B. King, Albert King, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

You'll learn how each iconic player approaches the blues and grab some quick licks inspired by their playing styles.

Part IV. Modern Blues

This is the crux of the class! Study where the blues is headed and freshen up your playing with lessons on advanced modern techniques followed by an examination of Derek Trucks' playing.

Part V. SongSquad

We'll wrap up the class with five original compositions from Artur that put everything you've learned into action. This section is designed to take what you learned and put it into an entirely musical context.

7-Day Plan

Part I. Rhythm & Lead Fundamentals

Before we get into the advanced stuff, we'll make sure your blues foundation is rock solid.

To kick off the class and make sure you're ready for advanced concepts, you’ll learn how Artur approaches the fundamentals of blues rhythm and lead playing.

This section serves as a refresher on the basics of blues (which you can learn in our Blues Bootcamp). The first half of this section focuses on rhythm playing: form, riffs, and chords. The second half focuses on lead guitar concepts.

Part II. Blues Styles

Next up, we'll explore the world of lead guitar.

In this section, you'll study three different blues progressions. The goal here is to dissect examples of Artur improvising over a progression, then create your own solo over provided jam tracks.

It’s easy to simply learn a solo and stop there. We'll challenge you to go further and hone your fundamentals as you work through this section by emphasizing feel, motifs, articulation, and phrasing.

Part III. Blues Icons

Learn what made B.B. King, Albert King, and Stevie Ray Vaughan such great blues guitarists.

While there are a lot of legendary blues guitarists, these three have had the biggest impact on Artur's (and many other guitarists') playing. In this section, Artur will break down how B.B. King, Albert King, and SRV approach blues soloing. Then, you'll learn some tasty licks to capture the spirit of each guitarists' sound.

Parts IV. and V.

We'll cap off the class with an exploration of where contemporary blues guitar is headed.

Part IV. Modern Blues

Traditionally, blues guitarists stick to minor and major pentatonic vocabulary. However, the blues is headed to exciting new places. Modern blues players often blend Mixolydian, Dorian, and diminished sounds into their playing.

In this section, Artur will teach you how to take your pentatonic base further by adding in “target” or “color” notes to your solos. You'll also study modern techniques used by heavyweight players like Joe Bonomassa and Derek Trucks.

Part V. SongSquad

We'll wrap up by making things musical with a series of original compositions (called SongSquads) that tie together everything you’ve learned in this Master Class (with a few added challenges, of course).
