What you'll learn

Curriculum

Stay focused with this step-by-step learning program designed by our expert team of music educators.

How it works

Your guided learning pathway

In this three-part Master Class, Sarah will you through advanced exercises, techniques, and transcribed solos to develop prog-inspired tapping skills. You'll focus on shapes, sounds, and musical storytelling to learn tapping with a music-first mindset.

Two-Handed Tapping Basics

First, you'll learn how to get set up for fret-tapping success and work through exercises designed to get you tapping right away.

While guitarists in the prog genre are known for odd tunings and 7+ string guitars, this class is designed for 6-string, standard tuned guitars (to keep things accessible for all).

Tapping Tips

Once you have the fundamentals down, you'll dive into odd-meter tapping and learn two original solos from Sarah's iconic songs The Salient Voyage and First Flight.

Songwriting and Composition

Finally, Sarah wraps up the class by walking you through her unique approach to songwriting and production.

These lessons provide a fresh look at the home-production process, and the insight you'll gain will help you fuel songwriting ideas no matter which genre you identify with.

In Part I, Sarah breaks down how to get set up for tapping and walks you through the thought process behind basic two-handed tapping technique. After exercises and drills designed to get you playing right away, we’ll wrap up this section with a lesson on chordal tapping. Cool!

Part II. Tapping Tips

Tackle fret tapping within the context of a song and explore advanced techniques.

In Part II, Sarah breaks down all things tone and sustain. She also walks you through how to incorporate odd-meter tapping in your playing.

We'll wrap up this section by challenging you to learn two original songs by Sarah as you dig into her solos on The Salient Voyage and First Flight.

Part III. Songwriting and Composition

In Part III, Sarah discusses two essential tips for songwriting workflow that will keep you from feeling stuck in familiar shapes, keys, and stale harmonic and rhythmic concepts.

Then, she moves on to home-production tips. Being able to produce your own music will make your life easier as an artist. You'll gain the freedom to ideate musical morsels, maintain complete creative control, and navigate DAW's, plugins, mixing, & mastering.

Finally, we'll wrap up the class with next steps on how to best continue your guitar journey and develop your voice.
